twenty two under the seat by Wanda Morrow Clevenger

this side the town limit
strays ran
in mismatched band
breeding nuisance
to no remedy
until town council
said
load a BB-gun
and have a blast

the mongrels who took
the truck
knew exactly the payoff
lazed around a picnic table
for days
sniffing around
after dark

they abandoned the truck
on a back road
stripped of tools
tossed the keys
hightailed it
with the .22
from under the seat
